The Epson Stylus 980 printer allows you to print both documents and photos in full color, but over time the print heads can become unaligned or clogged. If the print heads aren't working properly, you will notice your print jobs have large empty areas or are skewed to the left or right. You can troubleshoot any problems you experience with the Epson Stylus 980 by using the software that was included with the printer.

- Press the power button on the Epson Stylus 980 printer and unplug the computer interface cable from the back of the printer. Disconnect the power cable and wait 10 seconds. Reconnect both cables and power the printer back on.
- Navigate to the Epson 980 driver downloads website (see Resources). Click the "Printer Driver" link that corresponds to the operating system on your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions to download the latest software driver.
- Attempt to print a document again to see if the Epson printer is working. Check to see if the document has missing dots or the ink is lighter than it should be. Open the Epson software you installed when you setup the printer.
- Click "Printer Settings" and then navigate to the "Utility" tab. Click "Head Cleaning" and wait for the Epson Stylus 980 to finish automatically cleaning its print heads.
- Print another document and check to see if the alignment of the text or image is off center. Return to the "Utility" tab in the Epson software's window. Click "Print Head Alignment" and then click "OK."
- Attempt to print another document. Check to see if all of the indicator lights on the printer flash together repeatedly. Contact Epson support if all of the lights are flashing together as your printer has suffered a mechanical failure that will require a repair or replacement.
